Michael McManus – Winemaker
An experienced Chemical Engineer with a First Class Honours degree from the University of NSW, Michael started his career as a Food Process Engineer. Working for companies such as Unilever and Nestlé, Michael specialised in beverage, creating and improving some of Australia’s best known drinks, as well as commissioning the multi-million dollar processing plants used to manufacture them. A passion for wine, coupled with a curious mind, led to the laundry room experiment, producing a wine he now describes as ‘awful….but I thought it was great at the time!’ His deep understanding of chemical processes and the science of flavour made formal retraining as a winemaker an obvious career step, leading to a stint as winemaker (with somewhat improved equipment!) for 5-star rated winery Tamburlaine between 1999 and 2003. During this time, Michael completed his Bachelor of Applied Science, Wine Science degree at Charles Sturt University, graduating with distinction in 2002.
