Bored? Need to get your hands on something new?

October 31, 2015

Are you’re bored of the same old, same old… We understand…

Michael loves to craft classic Hunter wine styles. But like all good chefs and master craftsmen he also loves to create new flavours, push the boundaries and craft quirky or unusual wines. He’s not quite Heston Blumenthal… but when given the chance to try something new, he first in the queue!

This vintage, when offered a small parcel of the rather rare variety, Fiano, he couldn’t say no. No thinking time was needed and the deal was signed, sealed and delivered before I had a chance to say, “Fee…what?”

Fee–ah-no. It’s a white Italian grape variety that originated in the Campania region of southern Italy and the island of Sicily. However, its ability to withstand warmer growing seasons has now seen it emerge in other parts of the world, including Australia, where we currently have fewer than 50 plantings. Can’t guess why Michael was excited, can you?

This ancient grape variety produces rich, intensely flavoured wine with lots of aromatics. Ours has enticing aromas of mandarin, pear and subtle hints of red delicious apple, leading to a richly flavoured dry palate of white peach, pine nuts and lemon zest. The texture is rich with clean crisp acidity and an intense lingering finish. It’s the perfect accompaniment to seafood, pasta or other Italian style cuisine.

Although only just released, our Limited Release 2015 Fiano has already received a Silver Medal in The Hunter Valley Boutique Winemakers Show and seems to have become our family’s new favourite!

So, there’s no excuse to be bored anymore. Purchase some of this new, emerging variety and get ready to declare, you too, have a new favourite wine!
